SAKURA internet Inc. (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka; Founder, CEO, and President: Kunihiro Tanaka, hereafter “SAKURA internet”), a provider of digital infrastructure services, launched the “SAKURA Gen AI PLATFORM” (hereafter the “Service”) on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
This Service offers vector databases for API*1 and RAG*2, enabling fully managed generative AI applications to connect with foundation models such as large language models (LLMs) and “Koukaryoku” generative AI cloud services. Using these features facilitates the development of AI applications that leverage “Koukaryoku.”
This Service has been introduced at Uryuyama Academic Foundation, Kyoto University of the Arts on a trial basis. The trial utilizes “cotomi,” a generative AI developed by NEC, as the foundation model on the SAKURA AI Platform to operate “miibo,” a no-code AI chatbot building service developed by miibo Co., Ltd. Depending on the user’s selection, this allows everything from foundations to applications to be handled using only domestic services.
We will further enhance the convenience of this Service based on trial feedback and plan to expand the range of foundation models and applications available on the platform through collaboration with various companies in Japan and abroad.
SAKURA internet is committed to contributing to the ongoing development of generative AI to meet the growing demand for AI technologies.
*1. Application Programming Interface: A framework that shares functions between different applications
*2. Retrieval Augmented Generation: A technology that retrieves information by searching databases and enables large language models (LLMs) to generate responses using that information
About the SAKURA Gen AI PLATFORM
Features
1. Enables selection from multiple foundation models
Our company plans to continue collaborating with various companies in Japan and abroad to increase the selection of foundation models for this Service. Using the foundation models on this platform makes complete domestication of data transmission and storage possible.
2. Enables immediate use in a serverless environment
Since the “SAKURA Gen AI PLATFORM” handles most of the construction and management of the execution platform, a variety of foundation models can be readily used without specialized knowledge of LLMs. This means customers can focus on developing applications utilizing generative AI.
3. Utilizes “NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs”
The foundation for this platform utilizes the “Koukaryoku” generative AI cloud services that we provide. “Koukaryoku” is equipped with “NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs” designed for AI development and machine learning.

The following comments were received at the launch of the “SAKURA Gen AI PLATFORM.”
Akio Yamada, Managing Director of AI Technology Service Business Division, AI Technology Officer, NEC Corporate Senior Vice President
NEC provides “cotomi,” a high-speed, high-performance generative AI developed in-house, for the “SAKURA Gen AI PLATFORM”. As a flexible foundation capable of addressing diverse needs, we are confident that this platform will accelerate AI adoption in Japan. The trial introduction at Kyoto University of the Arts marks the beginning of NEC’s expanding collaboration with SAKURA internet as we strive to provide high-quality, safe, and secure AI to a broad range of customers.
Masashi Kunugi, Representative Director & CEO, miibo Co., Ltd.
Amid growing AI demand, there is a fast-growing need for the secure and appropriate use of various LLMs at the right place and time, as well as the development of AI applications tailored to specific use cases. Moving forward, the technological assets provided by the “SAKURA Gen AI PLATFORM” will be essential as the use of domestic models and secure RAG gains importance. Our company is also working toward expanding the societal implementation of generative AI that fully employs this platform’s technology through “miibo.”
Taku Satoh, President, Uryuyama Academic Foundation, Kyoto University of the Arts
Kyoto University of the Arts has actively embraced the possibilities of education and creative expression enabled by generative AI. We are extremely pleased to be able to participate in the trial introduction of the “SAKURA Gen AI PLATFORM” provided by SAKURA internet. This trial promotes a new approach that visualizes the learning process starting from an individual’s recordings and thoughts, ultimately fostering richer outputs. We aim to utilize generative AI not merely as a one-way support for information, but as a foundation that fosters each individual’s curiosity and personal growth. Our university will continue to explore the potential of generative AI in art education and contribute to advancing creative learning.
